The cylinder has an axially displaceable piston at which a piston rod with piston-sided end is pivotably fastened by an adapter (1). A piston rod-sided end of the piston rod is placed in a recess of the piston, and the piston rod comprises a neck on the piston rod-sided end. The adapter is engaged with an engagement region (1.1) in the neck, and is fastened to the piston in a rotationally fixed manner. The engagement region is formed in a shape of a cone, and comprises slots for forming disks (1.2). The disks enclose the rod behind the piston-sided end.
