<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high friction material inhibiting a rod-like object from being separated by a load given in the horizontal direction of a substrate when the material is subjected to friction with keeping high friction performance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The friction material has resin material layer having an irregular surface structure and bonded on the substrate and fiber-like or needle-shaped bodies bristled within protrusions in the irregular surface structure on the flat surface of the substrate.
