PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device for a vehicle which supports the driving of a vehicle so that the occurrence of traffic jam can be prevented, and has practically and sufficiently improved convenience. SOLUTION: This driving support device for a vehicle is provided with a vehicle density calculation means for obtaining, based on the detection result of another vehicle detection means, the vehicle density of other vehicles which travel on the same traveling lane as that of the self-vehicle and are present within a prescribed distance before and behind the self-vehicle. The traveling state determination means is configured to determine that the traveling state of the self-vehicle may become the factor of the occurrence of traffic jam when a difference calculated by subtracting the vehicle density before the self-vehicle from the vehicle density behind the self-vehicle based on the calculation result of the vehicle density calculation means is larger than a first specified value, and a difference calculated by subtracting the vehicle density behind the self-vehicle from a threshold preset according to the traveling speed of the self-vehicle detected by a self-vehicle detection means is equal to or less than a second specified value.
