PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism detection method and a microorganism detection apparatus to detect the presence of microorganisms by discriminating microorganisms in a flowing liquid from solid materials other than microorganism. SOLUTION: The microorganism detection apparatus is provided with a light-emission part 204 to radiate a sample liquid flowing in a pipe with light of the first wavelength, a light receiving part 205 to detect the transmission amount of the light of the first wavelength through microorganisms and the transmission amount of the light through the solid materials other than microorganism, a light-emission part (204) radiating the sample liquid with light of the second wavelength, a light-receiving part (205) to detect the transmission amount of the light of the second wavelength through the solid materials other than microorganism, and an operation part 206 to calculate the difference between the transmission amount of the light of the first wavelength through the microorganisms and the solid materials other than microorganism and the transmission amount of the light of the second wavelength through the solid materials other than microorganism, wherein the presence of microorganisms is detected by the transmission difference calculated by the operation means 206.
