<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that sets an image carrier and a developing means apart from each other, without markedly impairing the mountability, when a process cartridge is mounted. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a cartridge mounted on and demounted from a device body along the length of an image carrier. The cartridge has an image carrier, a developing means which comes into contact with the image carrier, to develop an electrostatic latent image formed on the image carrier; a first frame supporting the image carrier; and a second frame supporting the developing means and movably coupled with the first frame, and the second frame has a depressed surface depressed by a depressing member and moves to a position, such that the image carrier and developing means part from each other, when the depressed surface is depressed by the depressing member. The device body has a guidance member which comes into contact with the depressed surface, when the cartridge is inserted to guide it, and the guide member has a slope surface which depresses the depressed surface as the cartridge enters and a slope surface which releases the depressed surface from being depressed right, in front of the mounting position of the cartridge. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
