<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a target object in an image with high accuracy, even if there is an unstable factor such as an individual difference among recognition targets or shooting environment change. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An object recognition engine 31 detects object areas corresponding to a face image and a hand image from a monochrome image converted by an image converter unit 30. A color average extractor unit 34 extracts color information of the face image object area, and based on the above color information, sets reference color data. Also, the color average extractor unit 34 extracts color information from each candidate of the hand image object area. For each candidate of the hand image object area, a filtering unit 35 compares the color information with the reference color data, refines the hand image object area based on the above comparison result, and finally outputs one of the candidates of the hand image object areas, as an object to be recognized.
