PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make both compatible in reliability and controllability of feedback control. SOLUTION: This V-type engine becomes an unequal interval in a combustion interval in the same bank without becoming alternate in combustion order in right-left banks, and has a phase adjusting mechanism, a cam position signal generating means for generating a plurality of cam position signals at an equal interval per one rotation of a camshaft by synchronizing with rotation of the camshaft, a valve timing detecting means for detecting the actual valve timing in accordance with a cylinder based on these cam position signals, correction means S8, S11, S14 and S15 for correcting this detected each cylinder actual valve timing by a correction value corresponding to a dislocation quantity caused by a difference in cam driving torque in the sensing timing with every predetermined crank angle, and a feedback control means for controlling a command value imparted to the phase adjusting mechanism by making a feedback process so that this corrected each cylinder valve timing coincides with the target valve timing.
