The method (II) comprises the steps of dimethyl telepthalate of (1) oxidising methyl p-formyl benzoate in distillating residues of dimethyl telepthalate (II) with 100 volume of 1-20% acid solution at 90-100'C, (2) washing with water. Acid is one of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid. (I) is used as intermediate of pharmaceuticals and agro-chemicals.
