The method involves controlling and/or commutating a stepper motor by chopping a preset current flow, and temporally synchronizing a chopper clock for scanning the current flow with a frequency of the current flow by measuring a complete stepping rate of the stepper motor concerning to a system clock. Time duration between two complete steps of the motor is measured by a time measuring device concerning to the system clock. A chopper clock generator is controlled for producing the chopper clock with a nominal number of chopper cycles between the complete steps of the motor. An independent claim is also included for a circuit arrangement for operating a stepper motor comprising a time measuring device for measuring time duration between two complete steps of the motor.
