<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azo dye that has low toxicity to organisms, an ink sheet for thermosensitive transfer recording, which contains the azo dye and a thermosensitive transfer recording method. <P>SOLUTION: The azo dye comprises a diazo component containing an acyl group at the position 2, for example, a phenyl ring containing an acetyl group, a coupling component being phenol, naphthol or an aniline derivative and has a molecular weight of ≥200 and ≤600 and CLogP value of ≥0 and ≤4.0.
