PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of suppressing the formation of a ghost image more reliably while cutting down ink consumption. SOLUTION: The printer includes a plate making part 3 making a plate of a first plate-making image and a second plate-making image side by side to one plate 64 or making a plate of a third plate-making image having an image area of two face portions, and a printing part 2 carrying out printing on paper P by operating a pressure applying member 13 to contact with and separate from a printing cylinder 12 wound with the made plate. The printer comprises a double side printing function of printing the first and second plate-making images, a single side selective printing function of printing one of the images, and a single side printing function of printing the third plate-making image. The printer has a storage means for storing a plate-making image area, and a measuring means for measuring an elapsed time after the end of printing. Whether the elapsed time measured by the measuring means has passed a predetermined set time is determined, and when the elapsed time has passed the set time, the operation of the plate making part 3 is controlled to carry out plate-making while limiting it to areas other than the plate-making area stored in the storage means in plate-making carried out after the lapse of the set time.
