<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patient name display system which drastically reduces power consumption and protects privacy of the patient without need to equip an information storage memory for a patient name indicator. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A luminance control film 42 of the patient name indicator 20 is disposed so as to cover all over a display surface of a cholesteric liquid crystal indicator 41 while having a prescribed space from the display surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal indicator 41. Also the luminance control film 42 is divided into a plurality of areas for displaying a plurality of patient names respectively and light transmission ratio is controllable for each of the plurality of areas. A display controller 50 displays the plurality of patient names to a plurality of display areas of the cholesteric liquid crystal indicator 41 corresponding to the plurality of areas of the luminance control film 42 and enhances only light transmission ratio of an area determined on the basis of the display area control information read by a card reader 23, of the plurality of areas of the luminance control film 42.
