PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a poly(arylenevinylene) polymer compound. SOLUTION: The method for producing a polymer compound containing a repeating unit expressed by formula (3a) and a repeating unit expressed by formula (3pa) comprises the first step to react a compound expressed by formula (1) with a compound expressed by formula (2) in an organic solvent in the presence of a palladium catalyst to obtain a reaction product and the second step to add a compound expressed by formula (2M), a compound expressed by formula (3M), a palladium catalyst and a base to the organic solvent and react the reaction product with the compound expressed by formula (2M) and the compound expressed by formula (3M) to produce the polymer compound.
