<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate color images based on both simultaneous method and area sequential method by a simple configuration and to display observation images suitable for an observation situation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an electronic endoscope, an LED lamp performing area sequential light emission of emitting light of R, G and B in the order and simultaneously emitting light of R, G and B, is provided on a scope distal end, and pixel signals are read from a simultaneous type CCD 14 provided with an R, G and B color filter 15.
