<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an image recording method, capable of immediately knowing which image is to be reproduced. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 100 includes: an imaging means; a position information acquiring means for acquiring position information relating to a place of photographing; a direction information acquiring means which acquires direction information for specifying a direction of an optical lens on which an optical image is to be formed by the imaging means; a name image generating means which generates name image data indicating a name of a subject included in a photographed image corresponding to an imaging signal on the basis of the position information and the direction information; and a recording control means which causes an image data recording means to record the name image data together with photographed image data indicating the photographed image.
