PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed regulator for an elevator capable of surely performing the restoring work of the speed regulator from a landing hall only by lifting a car a little, even if a position of the car is in the vicinity of the landing hall of the uppermost story when the speed regulator operates. SOLUTION: This speed regulator has a releasing cam fixed to a claw, a releasing ring rotatably arranged around a sheave shaft of a sheave and arranging at least one projection on the circumference around the sheave shaft in a position opposed to the releasing cam, and a ring constraint means for constraining the releasing ring by remote operation, and is constituted so that, in the restoring operation of the speed regulator, the releasing ring is constrained, and the claw is engaged with a trip lever by rotating the releasing cam by allowing any of the projection to abut on the releasing cam.
