<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the focal length changes even when the temperature changes. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The lens initial position setting is completed in S10-S12, and the initial temperature Tr is detected with a temperature sensor in S13. The initial temperature Tr is compared with a predetermined temperature in S14, and when the temperature Tr is lower, the mode is set to normal temperature mode, and the movable range of the magnification change frame is set in the normal zooming range in S15 to perform zooming/focusing operation in S16. The temperature T of the structural members is read in S17 and compared with the predetermined temperature in S18, and when it is lower, the process proceeds to S15, and when higher, the process proceeds to S19. When the initial temperature Tr is high in S14 and the temperature T is high in S18, the mode is set to the high temperature mode, and the movable range of the magnification change frame is shifted to the wide angle to set the zooming range in S19 to perform zooming/focusing operation in S20. The temperature T is read in S21 to compare it with the predetermined temperature in S22, and when it is lower, the process proceeds to S15, and when higher, it proceeds to S19.
