PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aggregate of a cyanine compound, from which a dyestuff having a sharp absorption maximum is obtained. SOLUTION: The cyanine compound shown by formula (I) (wherein one of Y<SP>1</SP>and Y<SP>2</SP>is a single bond, -O-, or -NR<SP>4</SP>- and the other of them is -O- or -NR<SP>4</SP>-; one of Y<SP>3</SP>and Y<SP>4</SP>is a single bond, -O- or -NR<SP>4</SP>- and the other of them is -O- or -NR<SP>4</SP>-; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each an aliphatic group independently; R<SP>3</SP>is a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; R<SP>4</SP>is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic group) is kept in a specific aggregated state, which is then used as the dyestuff.
