The device has an adjusting element (12) provided with a threaded sleeve and inserted in a drilling for one of a set of fixing screws between connecting surfaces. The adjusting element is screwed to an attachment at corresponding connecting surface of a support part e.g. engine housing (3) by a tool retaining area (14) for balancing manufacturing tolerances. A predetermined breaking point is provided between the tool retaining area and the threaded sleeve, where the breaking point limits the clamping torque of the adjusting element. An independent claim is also included for a method for fastening a component to a support part.
