摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make finer the magnetic particles in perpendicular recording layers, to improve their orientation at the same time and to further reduce the medium noise in a vertical magnetic recording medium and device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording medium includes a non-magnetic seed layer, a non-magnetic intermediate layer formed on the non-magnetic seed layer, and a perpendicular recording layer formed on the non-magnetic intermediate layer. The non-magnetic seed layer has a first seed layer of an Ni alloy having an fcc structure, and a second seed layer of an Ni alloy having an fcc structure and formed between the first seed layer and the non-magnetic intermediate layer. The content of the elements other than Ni and having a Goldschmidt radius larger than Ni, in the Ni alloys forming the second seed layer is larger than the content of elements other than Ni and having Goldschmidt radius larger than Ni in the Ni alloys in the first seed layer.
