<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a home appliance recognition system capable of easily controlling a non-IP system home appliance from an HGW via a network, by automatically recognizing a plurality of home appliances in the HGW. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An HGW 13 for downloading data in an infrared command storage server 12 via a network 11 and an electronic apparatus 14 for communicating with the HGW 13 via an infrared transmitter 15 are provided. The HGW 13 includes a power on/off signal database 13a, a control command information database 13b and an apparatus recognition function section 13c for recognizing the operation of the electronic apparatus 14, and successively transmits to the electronic apparatus 14 power on/off signals downloaded from a command information database 12a. When the electronic apparatus 14 reacts, the apparatus recognition function section 13c recognizes that the transmitted apparatus type of each power on/off signal is the apparatus type of the electronic apparatus 14, and downloads entire sets of control command information corresponding to the recognized apparatus types.
