PURPOSE: A mobile communication terminal and a method of displaying characters using the same are provided to make character display methods different according to distance recognition about locations from a contact point. CONSTITUTION: An input device senses real-touch of a contact point and proximity-touch according to a distance from the contact point. When a text message is made, a controller(180) controls a display type of the character displayed through a text input window according to a signal offered from the input device. When proximity-touch is sensed from the input device, the controller displays a predetermined number of characters around a key display region among characters allocated to a proximity key.
