<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear for an internal combustion engine capable of inhibiting torque fluctuation acting on a camshaft even during cylinder deactivation operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the valve gear for the internal combustion engine provided with an intake camshaft 20 provided with an intake cam 25 driving an intake valve 13 to open and close the same and a pump cam driving a fuel pump pressurizing fuel, and a lift stop mechanism 30 executing cylinder deactivation operation by stopping open and close operation of engine valves of a part of cylinders, the intake camshaft 20 provided with the pump cam is a camshaft driving the intake valve 13 of operational cylinders operating during cylinder deactivation operation to open and close the same, and the pump cam is provided in such a manner that a phase at which drive torque thereof gets the maximum and a phase at which drive torque of the intake cam 25 gets the maximum do not coincide.
