A process by means of which the colonisation by plaque on dental materials can be permanently prevented or delayed without the product properties of the dental material being negatively influenced. The process involves equipping the dental material with anti-plaque substance, namely at least one molecularly dispersely distributed octenidine salt or dequalinium salt. Also disclosed is a dental material so equipped.
