The present invention relates to a power control apparatus and method, more particularly to a power control apparatus and method for stably controlling the over-current of a generator with a low system voltage. One embodiment of the present invention provides an apparatus for controlling the electric power in a generating system. The power control apparatus according to the embodiment of the present invention comprises a current comparator, a controller, a switch, and a resistor. The current comparator is connected to a generator that generates electric power, and calculates a current errorby comparing the current measured in the generator with the reference current of the generator. The controller calculates an effective power value by receiving the current error and outputs a switch-driving signal corresponding to the calculated effective power value. The switch is operated by the switch-driving signal of the controller. The resistor consumes the current within the error range by distributing the current through the operation of the switch.
