<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which determines whether a striking section strikes a conveying mechanism for conveying a recording medium when a lifting mechanism mounted with the conveying mechanism moves the conveying mechanism to a recording position for recording processing, and based on the determination result, restrains excessive striking to the conveying mechanism due to the striking section, and also restrains overload on the lifting mechanism, and to provide a control method for the image recorder and a program therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The image recorder includes a balance degree detecting section 23 for detecting a balanced state of the conveying mechanism 3 when the conveying mechanism 3 is moved to a recording position from a standby position by the lifting mechanism 6.
