<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content server which provides a comfortable TV viewing environment equal to or more than an environment that employs channel switching of a conventional analog TV system, an information processing apparatus, a content distribution method, an information processing method, and a content distribution system. <P>SOLUTION: The content server is provided with an encoding unit which encodes video and audio content to generate a compressed data stream, including a compressed video data stream comprising only reference compressed video data as a data stream for preview separately from a stream for view, and a distribution unit which sections the compressed data stream into a data distribution period and a data non-distribution period and intermittently distributes the compressed data stream, such that the sectioned data non-distribution period matches the data non-distribution period of a first compressed data stream distributed from another content server.
