PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel oil composition having excellent ignitability, sufficiently excellent exhaust gas characteristics, high thermal efficiency, and a wide operational availability range in premixed compression self-ignited combustion with high compression ratio. SOLUTION: The fuel oil composition for premixed compression self-ignited combustion has the properties of research octane number (RON) of 60-89, the difference (RON-MON) between RON and motor octane number (MON) of 6 or less, a sulfur content of 10 massppm or less, a 50% distillation temperature (T50) of 75°C-110°C, a kinematic viscosity at 15°C of 0.5-0.7 mm<SP>2</SP>/s, a surface tension at 25°C of 15-25 mN/m, an aroma content of 15 vol.% or less, the total amount of olefin content and aroma content of 25 vol.% or less. Of prepared base materials used in preparation, a base material with an aroma content of 90 vol.% or more is formulated in an amount of 10 vol.% or less, and a base material with the sum of an aroma content and olefin content of 45 vol.% or more is formulated in an amount of 40 vol.% or less.
