<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately and strictly conduct advance control when a general purpose engine is accelerated or decelerated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The capacitor-discharge ignition device 30 has a control part 34 for controlling the ignition timing of an ignition plug 33 in accordance with a rotation speed of the general-purpose engine 10. The control part compares the rotation speed with an upper limit speed and a lower limit speed each time the general-purpose engine rotates. When it is determined that the rotation speed continuously exceeds the upper limit speed for a predetermined number of times, advance control is conducted to advance the ignition timing. When it is determined that the rotation speed continuously falls below a lower limit speed for a predetermined number of times, delay control is conducted to delay the ignition timing.
