PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize contamination of a transfer material (paper) by toner sediment of a surface of a fixing member during fixing treatment. SOLUTION: This fixing device 40 comprises a fixing roller 50 for applying fixing treatment by heat transfer heating to a toner image formed on a surface of the paper P being conveyed by rotation in the forward direction, a separation pawl 71 that is butted on a surface of the fixing roller 50 and separates the paper P wound on the surface via the toner image, and a controlling means 80 for controlling the rotation of the fixing roller 50. The controlling means 80 performs control so that, until the paper P having been applied with transferring treatment of the toner image from a transfer belt 134 on the upstream side of the fixing roller 50 reaches the fixing roller 50, the drive motor 45 reversely driven to reversely rotate the fixing roller 50, and, when the paper P reaches the fixing roller 50, the drive motor 45 is forwardly driven to forwardly rotate the fixing roller 50.
