PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately set a determination value VJ that is compared with the intensity of vibration for controlling ignition timing, and to control the ignition timing with favorable accuracy. SOLUTION: A determination value VJ is set by adding a feed back term Jfb to an offset term Joffset. The offset term Joffset is set in accordance with a map having an engine rotational speed NE and a load KL as parameters. The feedback term Jfb is corrected depending on knock occupancy KC indicating a frequency of the occurrence of knocking. Ignition timing is retarded in a state that a knock intensity value N is larger than a determination value VJ.
