<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheelchair preventing accidents due to a mistake of a user or a caregiver, and to provide a footrest. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The wheelchair is provided with a wheel unit 20 to which a motor unit 25 is attached. The wheel unit 20 is provided with wheels 21, attaching shafts 22 and axle members 23. A wheelchair body 10 is provided with a backrest 11, armrests 13 and a seat part 12. To the wheelchair body 10, brakes 15 for braking the wheels and brake levers 16 are attached. The footrest 30 is provided with freely vertically movable foot plates 31, and a detection means for detecting whether or not the foot plates 31 are lowered is provided.
