Provided is a synchronous motor which is equipped with a rotor in which magnetic poles are disposed at equal intervals in the circumferential direction, and a stator in which stator windings, which are wrapped in a concentrated fashion on stator teeth, are wound. The stator teeth form stator teeth groups at m units arranged in the circumferential direction, and the stator teeth groups are arranged at equal intervals in the circumferential direction. m stator teeth in each stator teeth group are positioned with different arrangement intervals from the intervals of the magnetic poles of the rotor, and the stator windings which have been wound thereon are separately connected to independent external terminals. When electrical current is supplied to the stator windings, the drive device supplies the stator windings with current having mutually different phases through the external terminals to which the stator windings have been separately connected.
