PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply an inverter having a protection circuit operating for abnormality in load, coping with different shut-down specifications of a plurality of destinations with various types of inverters according to conditions of the destinations. SOLUTION: A light source element lighting device (1) includes a plurality of light source elements (10), light source driving circuits (3, 4) lighting the light source elements and an abnormal sensing circuit (13) sensing abnormality in lighting of the light source element. The lighting device includes a protecting function switch signal input from the outside of the device. When abnormality occurs in lighting of one of the plurality of light source elements, whether lighting of other light source elements is temporarily stopped is switched based on the protecting function switch signal.
