<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device which measures the levels of reflection signals respectively on the multiple signal planes of an optical disk medium without complicated configurations of hardware. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical disk device is provided with: an optical pickup 13 which outputs an output signal which corresponds to reflected light on an optical disk medium; and a comparison signal outputting part which outputs a comparison signal indicating whether the level of the output signal is equal to a threshold value or larger. The device moves the objective lens of the optical pickup 13 relative to the surface of the medium within a prescribed range, measures the maximum level of the output signal that the optical pickup 13 outputs in the prescribed range, sets a value, which is determined according to the maximum level, as a threshold value which the comparison signal outputting part uses, and measures the levels of reflection signals corresponding to the reflected light on a plurality of signal faces, respectively, while moving the objective lens, on the basis of the output signals in the period in which it is indicated by the comparison signal that the level of the output signal is equal to the set threshold value or larger.
