摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of efficiently avoiding unnecessary deterioration in fuel economy and deterioration in control performance due to an ignition retard. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This control device for internal combustion engine includes: a maximum target charging efficiency computing section B109 for computing the maximum target charging efficiency based on the engine speed and the ignition retard quantity; a second target charging efficiency computing section B110 for comparing the target charging efficiency, which is computed by a first target charging efficiency computing means B108, with the maximum target charging efficiency to select a smaller value, and for computing the target in-cylinder air quantity based on the limited target charging efficiency; and a target throttle opening computing section B112 for computing a target in-cylinder air quantity based on the limited target charging efficiency to compute a target intake air quantity, which is to be intaken by the internal combustion engine, based on the computed value to control a throttle valve 2 so as to realize the target intake air quantity.
