COMPOUND ISOLATED FROM GAMBOGE RESIN HAVING ACTIVITY IN INHIBITING GROWTH OF TUMOR/CANCER CELLS AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide physiologically active extracted products from gamboge resin for production of an anticancer agent.

SOLUTION: Disclosed herein are an acetone-extracted product obtained from gamboge resin and compounds further purified from the acetone-extracted product, (a new compound called formoxanthone A). The acetone-extracted product and the further purified compounds have been demonstrated to have activities in inhibiting the growth of tumor/cancer cells. Also disclosed are the processes for obtaining the further purified compounds, and the uses of the acetone-extracted product and the further purified compounds in the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions for inhibiting the growth of tumor/cancer cells.
