PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an end face of a holey fiber of which hole is sealed over a desired length. SOLUTION: A light flux 7 emitted from a laser 5 is condensed by a lens 6 and turned into a light flux 7a achieving enough heat quantity to make melt silica glass as the fiber material of the holey fiber (HF) 4, and applied to the HF 4 from the lateral side thereof to melt silica glass. The light flux 7a is made to run or the HF 4 is moved in the direction orthogonal to both the optical axis direction of the light flux 7a and the axial direction of the HF 4, and if necessary, the light flux 7a is made to run or the HF 4 is moved in the direction parallel to the axial direction of the HF 4. Accordingly, the hole is sealed, the HF 4 is cut so that the sealed portion remains only by the desired length thus to form the end face, or the hole is sealed in the axial direction by the desired length, and the HF 4 is cut immediately near the sealed portion thus to form the end face.
