<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate inconvenience when characters are displayed simultaneously with reproduction of automatic performance data. <P>SOLUTION: By program processing, an electronic musical instrument captures automatic performance data representing music and text data representing a character string in a RAM 24 and makes a musical sound signal generation circuit 14 generate a musical sound signal based on the automatic performance data to reproduce the music. Simultaneously with the music reproduction, the character string based upon the text data is displayed on a display unit 13. In this case, the kind, size, and color of the display characters are predetermined with a display style control command in the automatic performance data. The total numbers of pages when all character strings are displayed one after another on the display unit 13 are calculated for a plurality of fonts prepared in advance and stored, and the total number of pages corresponding to one predetermined font among the prestored total numbers of pages is displayed when the font is predetermined.
