PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which is capable of improving productivity per unit time by reducing the printing blank time when printing processing is not performed. SOLUTION: In an ink-jet printer 1, when black and white printing and color printing are performed for one of a first medium to be printed on the side of a right platen 5 and a second medium to be printed on the side of a left platen 6, control is performed so as to simultaneously and parallelly perform the black and white CR postprocessing of a first carriage 26 and the color CR preprocessing of a second carriage 22 at least in a part.
