<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conveying device, a recording apparatus equipped with the conveying device and a conveying method for a recording medium capable of improving suction efficiency of a suction means and conveying efficiency of the recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The conveying device comprises a support stand 27 formed with a plurality of suction holes 29, a fan generating negative pressure inside the suction holes 29, valves 37 regulating the air flow inside the respective suction holes 29, rotary shafts 40 and cam members 41 switching an opened state and a closed state of the valves 37, a conveyor belt 23 conveying paper 12 from the upstream side in the conveying direction to the downstream side, a paper end sensor detecting the paper 12 conveyed by the conveyor belt 23, and a control part activating the cam members 41 based on the detected result of the paper end sensor, wherein the control part activates the cam members 41 so that the valves 37 are switched to an opened state one by one from the upstream side in the conveying direction based on the detection result of the leading end of the paper 12, and activates the cam members 41 so that the valves 37 are switched to a closed state one by one from the upstream side in the conveying direction based on the detection result of the trailing end of the paper 12.
