A method for cleaning a vehicle exhaust system filter including a plurality of generally parallel elongate channels comprises introducing liquid into the elongate channels for absorption by particulate matter present in the channels, and rotating the filter such that the rotation causes the wetted particulate matter to move along, and out of, the elongate channels to thereby clean the filter.
