The device has illuminated displays at outputs of shift registers (5). The shift registers are provided for each line to be transmitted and for each LED line (6). An adjustable clock generator generates clock signal whose clock is gradually changeable. A line (10) transfers data signal to a receiver. A manually operated push button adjusts clock rate of the clock signal. The shift registers are convertible to a logical value-zero by resetting the shift registers using a reset key. A change over switch successively adjusts modes of operation of the device in a certain order. An independent claim is also included for a method for demonstrating serial data communication.
