<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance controller reducing rapid braking to one's own vehicle when making control to stop the own vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: In this inter-vehicle distance controller, object detection information is acquired from a detection means detecting a preceding vehicle and a second preceding vehicle present ahead of the vehicle, and a first target stop position candidate with the preceding vehicle as a target, and a second target stop position candidate with the second preceding vehicle as a target are calculated based on the object detection information.
