<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope capable of inexpensively disposing an indicator while easily prescribing the direction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This endoscope 10 is provided with an endoscope body 12, an illumination optical system 34, a light guide section 66, and a light emitting indicator. The endoscope body 12 has an insertion section 22 to be inserted into a body cavity, and an operation section 24 provided at the proximal end of the insertion section. The illumination optical system is inserted from the operation section to the insertion section of the endoscope body, has an incoming end at the operation section and an outgoing end at the insertion section, and guides the illumination light to illuminate a subject with the illumination light entering in the incoming end and emitted from the outgoing end. The light guide section 66 picks up the leakage light of the illumination light from a portion between the incoming end and the outgoing end of the illumination optical system 34 to guide, or directly guides the illumination light.
