<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which excels in visibility of a jammed paper and facilitates removal of a jam while ensuring performance in terms of skew of a recording medium and printing accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an opening/closing door 50 to be opened/closed with respect to an apparatus body; and a transfer unit 13a disposed inside the opening/closing door 50, having a rotation fulcrum on the apparatus body side, to be opened/closed with respect to the apparatus body and used for transferring a toner image onto a recording medium. The image forming apparatus includes: a synchronizing means for opening the transfer unit 13a in synchronization with the opening operation of the opening/closing door 50; and a hold means for holding the transfer unit opened from a first position being a closed position to a second position, by the synchronizing means.
