PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sense of incongruity of a driver and influence on vehicle travel performance, by smoothly returning from protective control for automatically selecting a high speed side gear stage in a hydraulic fluid temperature rise in an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: An ECU continues the protective control (S170), when being not in a down-shiftable travel state (when determining NO of S160), even if the ATF temperature drops (when determining YES of S150), when performing the protective control on the up-shift side corresponding to a rise in the ATF temperature (when determining YES of S100), and permits a down-shift to a gear stage to be normally selected from the gear stage in the protective control by finishing the protective control (S200), only when being in the down-shiftable travel state (when determining YES of S160).
