LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND DRIVING METHOD THEREOF

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can prevent lighting delay due to darkness starting characteristic of a cold cathode fluorescent lamp from occurring even when the device is started in an environment of low illuminance after being left under darkness for a long term. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal panel 1 of a normally black type which exhibits the minimum transmittance on no application of voltage; and the cold cathode fluorescent lamp 3 used as a backlight source of the liquid crystal panel 1, and includes a light irradiation means of performing light irradiation for the cold cathode fluorescent lamp 3 until the first lighting of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp 3 from the starting of the device.
