PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ignition control and/or fuel injection control from being performed based on a wrong cylinder discrimination result caused by the reverse rotation of an engine. Ž
SOLUTION: An air flow meter 14 includes a bypass structure for easily taking in a backward flow of intake air, and a high response/high-speed starting sensor element 5 in order to detect an intake air amount for a forward flow and the backward flow separately. When the engine 11 is reversed, the flow of the intake air in an intake pipe 12 is reversed, that is, the intake air flows backward. When engine speed falls in a low rotation speed region below a prescribed threshold set lower than targeted idle rotating speed (the low rotation speed region in which the engine 11 may be reversed), and when the air flow meter 14 detects the backward flow of the intake air, cylinder discrimination based on an engine rotation signal from a crank angle sensor 28 (a cam angle sensor) is prohibited (or disabled) until the engine 11 is completely stopped.
