Ž<P>SOLUTION: True fresh air flow rate Ga is determined by correcting detected fresh air flow rate Gs detected based on detection signal of an air flow sensor 16 by a correction coefficient R renewed based on the latest excess air ratio λs detected by a λ sensor 32 when excess air ratio λs of exhaust gas detected by the λ sensor 32 is not less than prescribed determination excess air ratio λo. Correction of the detected fresh air flow rate Gs by the correction coefficient R renewed based on the latest excess air ratio λs is stopped and the true fresh air flow rate Ga is determined by correcting the detected fresh air flow rate Gs by the correction coefficient R renewed at last before the stop when excess air ratio λs detected by the λ sensor 32 is greater then the determination excess air ratio λo.
